The remains of the burnt out Palm Court Hotel in Torquay are being transformed by your Graffiti Artists that have joined a local workshop to brighten up the sea front eye-sore.

Hoardings have been put around the mess to cover it up and now they have been brightened up with Graffiti. The Graffiti advertises local attractions and events with dates of of summer exhibitions. The designs mix creative flair with information about other artistic exhibitions in the Bay.

Administrators have been looking for a buyer for the landmark site since last August. Travelodge was interested but that seems to have fallen through. At least now the brightly coloured Graffiti draws your eye away from the Palm Court remains.

More information about the work of the Graffiti Workshop can be found on their web site.

The new Travelodge in Paignton is now open. They are spreading everywhere these days. It is good to see a new business open and one that is prospering so well, creating new jobs for local people.

A bit worrying for other local bed and breakfasts in Paignton as they are always advertising such cheap rates. Their adverts usually run along the lines of from £19. Looking at the Travelodge web site though you can see that prices are from £55 per room so not so much to worry about.

Travelodges are very clean and modern but basic. Ok for one night but not a holiday. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Paignton with that home from home touch and a delicious full English breakfast then the best places to stay are either The Ratcliffe Guest House or The Birklands Guest House.

The Plam Court Hotel had already been given planning permission for demolition before the fire last Saturday. But a new buyer has to have planning permission for the new building before the old one can be knocked down!

Travelodge is still interested in the site but has not put in a bid yet.

A council spokesperson has said: “There is no immediate need to demolish unless the structure significantly deteriorates to a condition that will directly affect public safety. The timescale is indeterminate.”

So it looks like we are stuck with this eyesore for even longer! – this council really know how to put people of coming to Torbay
