The Radio 1 Roadshow to be hosted from Torbay in Paignton this year. This is really brilliant news for the Bay. Radio 1 and its DJ stars host a special roadshow on Paignton Green.
The event on Saturday 19th May is expected to draw a crowd of 800 people with tickets available to local people
Alongside the Radio 1 DJ’s, there will be performances from Example, Jaguar Skills and Eric Prydz. They are calling it “Radio 1 Starts The Summer, Live in Torbay”. This special one-off radio show, which will be broadcast live, is going to be a real coup for the English Riviera.
Some of the DJ’s will be Chris Moyles, Zane Lowe and Fearne Cotton – it will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra from 4pm to 11pm
Is this the impression we are trying to create for Torquay?
The shelter Sunday afternoon on Torquay’s Princess promenade.
This is the litter left behind from the kids that hang out in this shelter late every evening.
Why do we not employ someone to clean up this mess every morning (Or better still send someone down there in the evenings to start handing out the £75 spot fines?) Did not see one street cleaner all afternoon!
This afternoon has been really busy with lots of visitors about – This must leave them with a really good lasting impression of Torquay!
Even some of the Tulips by the side of the Pavilion have been damaged and one of the Palm Trees totally ripped out, roots included – Why is there not a Police presence in this area?
The banjo on Torquay seafront is to be demolished. As part of the renovations the top layer is to be removed to stop antisocial behavior!! The bottom layer is to be done up along with the other work currently being carried out.
Going to make a big difference to the traditional look of Torquay seafront.
Sad to see it go.
Torquay’s Wellswood wine barPremier Cru to move to Torquay town centre. The out of town bar has not been doing so well and the restaurant part of the business has already closed. Will be interesting to see where they are going to move to.
Meanwhile it looks like their old premises might be taken over by the Co-Op
Nearly two years ago the Torbados video was released and what has changed? Nothing - the streets still aint clean.
Torquay really is a very depressing place to walk around. Everywhere you go the pavements are covered in dog mess and litter. McDonalds, Schools and corner shops being the worst areas. The streets of Torbay are nothing more than a huge garbage dump! The council never cleans any of it up. They even add to the problem. With the new recycling method now imposed on householders, all the recycled rubbish gets collected using these small boxes which the bin men divide into separate sections on their rubbish cart. They drop half of it and never would dream of picking it up. On collection days you can follow a trail of can tops, lids and wrappers everywhere they have been.
Is it that difficult to train them properly?
Why are school kids not taught to respect their environment these days and take their rubbish home?
Why are people that let their dogs regularly foul our pavements not fined and locked up? And their doges confiscated as they are obviously not responsible enough to own a dog in the first place?
This really is a “broken society” with standards ever decreasing. No one has any respect for anything or anyone these days. A very sad world we live in.
Last night I went to Maha – Bharat an Indian restaurant in Torwood street Torquay, I was recommended this restaurant by a friend and I have to say I was not disappointed. The service was excellent from the time I arrived. I had already booked a table for 8.00 pm and as soon as I arrived I was show to my table and within minutes the poppadoms had arrived with all the extras to go with them. The waiters were very attentive throughout the evening and the service was efficient without being hurried. There was no pressure to eat up and get out!!
I would definitely recommend this restaurant I had chicken dansak with pilau rice and pesweri naan with one side order.
The kingfisher lager is a tad expensive that is the only criticism I have.
Torbay Mayor turns away hotel group for Riviera Centre and continues to pour in more money (an extra £400 000 over the next 2 years)
There are 2 sides to this – we should not have to use council tax to prop up this loss making venue but on the other hand it should not be turned into another hotel.
The use of the Riviera Centre need to be changed to make it profitable and bring more people into the bay. The council only has to look at the very sucessful Bournemouth International Centre to get some ideas.
If outside businesses are looking at investing in Hotels in Torbay there are plenty of empty, derelict ones that need to be made use of before we create any new ones. The now empty Bute Court in Belgrave Road is just one example.
