The Radio 1 Roadshow to be hosted from Torbay in Paignton this year. This is really brilliant news for the Bay. Radio 1 and its DJ stars host a special roadshow on Paignton Green.
The event on Saturday 19th May is expected to draw a crowd of 800 people with tickets available to local people
Alongside the Radio 1 DJ’s, there will be performances from Example, Jaguar Skills and Eric Prydz. They are calling it “Radio 1 Starts The Summer, Live in Torbay”. This special one-off radio show, which will be broadcast live, is going to be a real coup for the English Riviera.
Some of the DJ’s will be Chris Moyles, Zane Lowe and Fearne Cotton – it will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra from 4pm to 11pm
We have all just received or new Council Tax bills for 2012/2013
There is a brochure with it explaining how the money is spent. In the brochure there is also a whole page about Fly Tipping, Littering and Dog Fouling. Explaining that there is an on the spot fine of £75 and fines of up to £2500 in the courts.
Seems to me that with the state of the streets in Torbay the council could make a fortune in fines to help reduce our Council Tax bills – but are they?
Is it all hot air or are they making the fines?
We have sent a request to the Council to find out exactly how much they did actually collect in fines for Litter and Dog Fouling over the last 12 months – It will be interesting to see what they have to say.
From what I have seen on many of our streets then this fine is not being implemented. Grass verges and hedges are strewn with litter that has been there and increasing for ages. Even peoples front gardens have rubbish thrown over the wall by passers by.
McDonald’s is one of the worst offenders. There is a trail of their cartons, cups and wrappers stretching from all their take aways. They supposedly litter pick their local area but has anyone ever seen them doing it?
If we are not careful what could be such a lovely place to live could just become a huge rubbish dump.
Why does no one seem to care any-more? Why can’t people take their litter home or use a bin? Why does schools not teach children to be responsible and respect the environment? What has gone wrong with our society?
Just a few places I have seen recently in Torquay:
If you want to complain about litter you can send a message to connections@torbay.gov and they will pass your message on to TOR2
Nearly two years ago the Torbados video was released and what has changed? Nothing - the streets still aint clean.
Torquay really is a very depressing place to walk around. Everywhere you go the pavements are covered in dog mess and litter. McDonalds, Schools and corner shops being the worst areas. The streets of Torbay are nothing more than a huge garbage dump! The council never cleans any of it up. They even add to the problem. With the new recycling method now imposed on householders, all the recycled rubbish gets collected using these small boxes which the bin men divide into separate sections on their rubbish cart. They drop half of it and never would dream of picking it up. On collection days you can follow a trail of can tops, lids and wrappers everywhere they have been.
Is it that difficult to train them properly?
Why are school kids not taught to respect their environment these days and take their rubbish home?
Why are people that let their dogs regularly foul our pavements not fined and locked up? And their doges confiscated as they are obviously not responsible enough to own a dog in the first place?
This really is a “broken society” with standards ever decreasing. No one has any respect for anything or anyone these days. A very sad world we live in.
I went to the Drum Inn Cockington on Saturday evening after being recommended it by a friend. I have to say the last time I visited it, it was very disappointing with cold food being served up and very long waits in between courses.
This visit wasn’t much better! The service was extremely slow due to not enough staff, we ordered drinks that didn’t arrive!! The new menu is better, but could still be improved upon. I had salmon fish cakes with chips, but there wasn’t any salad or peas to go with it! We also had nearly half an hours wait for deserts!! Then when we came to pay the bill at the end of the evening, that was wrong so we had to complain about that.
My overall impression is that there is major room for improvement, and they definately need more staff as the ones that are there can’t cope!
As you approach from the road you get an instant impression of the wonderful things to come. The flowers look beautiful. Janet and Chris really have taken a lot of trouble with the appearance of their guest house. Inside is the same, clean and well decorated throughout. Lovely spacious rooms with all the extras you could possibly wish for.
Breakfast is in a bright colourful dining room with plenty to choose from: fruit juices, cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurt, followed by a full cooked English breakfast with local produce or lighter options of smoked salmon, scrambled eggs. pancakes, omelettes, croissants or kippers. They even have toast made with their own home made bread, tea, coffee and jams. And, they cater for special diets (Vegetarian, celiac etc.)
Fairways Guest House Torquay is one of the best accommodations in The English Riviera – It is Highly recommended
I regularly visit the Brioche Cafe whenever I go to Totnes as the food there is lovely, I always have a breakfast everything is cooked to perfection and is always hot and very tasty. They do a special loose earl grey tea there with cinnamon in it I would definitely recommend trying that its lovely.
Totnes is a lovely place to visit very much like a small Glastonbury. I would absolutely recommend the Brioche Cafe when visiting, it is situated at the top of the town on the right hand side.
CENTRAL Devon MP Mel Stride is backing the multimillion-pound government investment in bringing super-fast broadband to Devon. This will be really good news for businesses and the tourist industry.
The Devon and Somerset bid, with support from Plymouth, North Somerset and Torbay councils, was one of only three to get the go ahead from the government’s Broadband Delivery UK Unit.
It’s a pity we can’t now also get super-fast highways into Torbay. That will be on Dial-Up forever!
