The new play area in Paignton next to the Apollo Cinema is to be given “village green status” this means it cannot be fenced off allowing dogs to run wild and mess everywhere like they do in the rest of Torbay.
Mr Handford (Torbay Civic Society Chairman) said the council estimated that if fencing was erected around the play park, maintenance costs would be halved because of the cost of cleaning up dog mess.
Surely dogs should be kept out of a childrens play areas anyway for a health and safety point of view?
Torbay Council seems to have gone on a spree recently of sticking notices on lamp posts about cleaning up after your dog!! – do they really think this will work?! – 90% of dog owners are irresponsible and do not care.
It is time to get wardens out on the street to catch these people and give them on the spot fines – nothing else will work.
The fines should also be raised much higher than they are now to be more effective.
