Well, what a way to start this blog. One of the most famous of Torquay’ s hotels burnt down! It has been empty and derelict for years looking an unsightly mess on Torquay’s sea front, now it looks even worse.
Police are treating it as arson, saying that it could have been started by squatters trying to keep warm and their fire got out of hand or, that someone started it deliberately so as to move forward it demolition.
It has been up for sale for the last five years and although there has been several prospective buyers no-one has actually bough it yet.
It’s very sad to see this lovely old hotel with so much character end up like this. There is only one way forward now and that is to knock it down as soon as possible. It has gone too far to be saved. Even if nothing is build there in the immediate future it must be remover before the next summer season begins.
