There is now a new web site where you can check the rating of the swimming water quality. South Devon’s beaches have been rated and are now online.

The Bathing Waters web site provides reports on over 500 beaches including those in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham

It has been reported that Torbay is the number one location for tourists wanting to book a self catering holiday beating 800 other destinations this year.

Blue Chip Holidays in Brixham said bookings are up 86% compared to last year. They are now looking at expanding their accommodation.

This is good news for the Bay and lets hope this trend continues with the Hotels, Guest Houses and Bed & Breakfasts. Its a good time to visit seasides in England without the problems associated with foreign travel: Extreme weather conditions, air strikes, ash clouds, poor exchange rates and increased air fares and taxes.

The Hotel has just released news of  a £2.5 million apartment and spa scheme.

They are hoping if they get planning permission, to erect the new apartments in an old disused oil tank built during the second world war. They want to improve the look of the area giving the new apartments glass roofs to blend in with the landscape. The apartments are the first phase of the development.

The second phase will include a spa with gym, indoor and outdoor pools, beauty treatments and salt water therapy.

Local residents are worried about the increased traffic to the area and that the area is not spoilt.

We need every investment we can get in the area, anything like this is helping to regenerate the tourist industry that we all rely on.

Many of Torbay’s beaches have Blue Flag awards. To get he awards 80 to 90 per cent of at least 20 water samples taken during the summer season the previous year must comply with international standards for safe bathing water.

The EU Bathing Water Regulations are going to be changed in 2015 meaning many of our beaches are not up to standard.

Not having the Blue Flag awards could be disastrous for Torquay, Paignton and Brixham reducing the number of visitors to the area. If the weather is good tourists want to be able to feel safe bathing in the sea.

The council and water authority had better get their acts together – they have got 4 years to get the water quality up to standard.

A 3 minute YouTube video has been put together by English Riviera Tourism Company to promote Torquay, Paignton and Brixham for the next season. Hoping to attract more tourists to the area.
