Torbay Mayor turns away hotel group for Riviera Centre and continues to pour in more money (an extra £400 000 over the next 2 years)
There are 2 sides to this – we should not have to use council tax to prop up this loss making venue but on the other hand it should not be turned into another hotel.
The use of the Riviera Centre need to be changed to make it profitable and bring more people into the bay. The council only has to look at the very sucessful Bournemouth International Centre to get some ideas.
If outside businesses are looking at investing in Hotels in Torbay there are plenty of empty, derelict ones that need to be made use of before we create any new ones. The now empty Bute Court in Belgrave Road is just one example.
